William McDonough

William McDonough is an architect, designer and pioneer in the sustainable movement since its inception. William McDonough is author of The Hannover Principles: Design for Sustainability (City of Hannover, 2000), and coauthor with Dr. Michael Braungart of Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things (North Point Press, 2002). His leadership in sustainable design is recognized widely, both in the U.S. and internationally, and he has written and lectured extensively on his design philosophy and practice. His influence spans over thirty years, reaching back to 1977 when he designed and built the first solar-heated house in Ireland while still a student at Yale University. Then in 1985, he designed the first “green office” in the U.S. for the Environmental Defense Fund. He continues to innovate to this day. His vision of a hopeful, positive, and environmentally intelligent future guides all of the designs of William McDonough + Partners.

We've been lucky to have amazing clients and seminal projects in a variety of locations, from Silicon Valley to the Netherlands. It's wonderful to see how our firm's design approach, based on Cradle to Cradle, is taking hold in such dynamic markets.
